Interests
Hormonal, neuroendocrine, and behavioral mechanisms responsible for the development and expression of animal social behavior and social relationships. Recent and current projects from my laboratory include:(a) development of preferences for opposite-sex partners in the socially monogamous zebra finch, (b) hormonal and vocal mechanisms involved in pair formation and maintenance in zebra finches, (c) maternal effects on offspring mediated by maternal sex steroid hormones in egg yolks, (d) neuroendocrine mechanisms underlying species differences in social organization, and (e) cryptic (post-mating) female choice. The common theme is an integrative approach aimed at understanding how function and phylogeny have shaped hormone-brain-behavior relationships.
